Field Trip for Mrs. CrazyWitch
1. Pearl Harbor (Hawaii)
So I am sure everyone knows about Pearl Harbor and what happened on December 7, 1941. But I am sure CrazyWitch doesn't so here it is. On the morning December 7th the Japanese fired on the naval base in Pearl Harbor. Americans never saw it coming. Over three thousand casualties happened that day. This was the "trigger" for the Americans to go to war. The Japanese awoke the sleeping dragon. Neutrality is over and done with!
This was a Military issue because the Japanese destroyed a lot of the Americans naval equipment. Also many of the aircraft were destroyed. So they had to rebuild everything

After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Americans got this boost of nationalism for america. It made Americans want to defend there country after there tragic event that occurred. Also FDR's speech did america some good to.
When you tour the USS Missouri and other naval ships, you will get a insight on the war and how everything happened. Also USS Missouri was significant to the Japanese surrendering. The Arizona memorial is about the ship that sunk because of the attack. It is to pay your respects and have some historical history.

2. Camp O"Donnell (Philippines)
Camp O" Donnell was the final stop on the Bataan Death March. It was used as an internment camp for Filipinos and Americans. Around 20,000 Filipinos and 1,600 Americans died at Camp O' Donnell. Filipino and American soldiers were said to have been beheaded in front of open graves. They were saved by the US Army and Philippine Commonwealth Army on January 30, 1945.
This was a Social issue. Just like the Japanese in america, the Americans and Filipinos were put into internment camps. Many of the American soldiers were killed and or died because of poor treatment. This was defiantly not a moral booster for the Americans after being defeated at the Bataan battle. This also could be a Military issue because it weakened the army a lot.

In a way its the Japanese getting back at the Americans for declaring war on them. But also its another slap to american faces with it comes to the war. One with pearl harbor now with the brutal Bataan death march.
You will learn about the brutality of what the prisoners went through on the march. Also it is a memorial so you will remember the POW who died. It is a historical site with a lot of history.
3. Manzanar National Historic Site (California)
This is a Japanese internment camp. Its one of the internment camps were the government sent the Japanese during WWII
This is a Social issue because it excluded Japanese from america even though most of them did not associate with Japan. Also it was a social reform.

When FDR authorized the Executive order 9066. It made the Japanese go to these exclusion zones. Japanese of Japanese decent on the pacific coast had to be relocated to exclusion zones or Internment Camps.
You will get a tour of the barracks and the site of the internment camp. Also there is a historical museum on the site. There are also cemetery of the people who died at the internment camp.

This is the capitol of Germany and was the center of Hitlers ruling.
It is a Political issue because Hitlers way of running a country was not the same as FDR's way. Hitler was a communist who was all about equal share. FDR was all about democracy! Everyone knows what that is.

The Atomic bomb was produced during WWII. It was known as the Manhattan Project were it happened. The location was in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
This is a Economic issue. When the Manhattan Project was happening many things had to go into order. Funding for this project was crucial. Infrastructure was needed for los Alamos and Oak Ridge.

This is were the Tuskegee Airmen practiced and trained before going to battle in Europe. It was the first Black air force team. The 99th pursuit air squadron. When blacks were put into air force, FDR established the FEPC which monitored Compliance with his edict. The CORE was founded during this time. It was an organization committed to nonviolent direct action.
This is a military issue because the Americans were allowing blacks to be in the air force Its a development for the blacks and for the American military.

It was a step towards equality for black people. The blacks were still separated from the blacks but was still a step. Plus with the organizations and laws being passed to protect the blacks was also a reform.

8. National WWII Museum
you can literally learn anything here! But You can learn about the women of war like the WAACs, WAVES, and SPARS. Women played a big role in america. They took the men's jobs like building weaponry for war.

There is an exhibit based on the Bracero program. The program was to help the Americans farmers during the war. It was a program between Americans and the Mexicans.
It is an Economic Issue. It was helped the american agriculture market a lot. It went on for 20 years more than it was expected to. It was a fixed solution to the economy.

10. Hiroshima
This was one of the two destinations for the atomic bomb attack on Japan. The city was destroyed with many Japanese getting killed. This would end the war with Japan for good. This was known as V- J. This was the day after the Japanese surrendered to the Americans on the USS Missouri.
This was a Social issue. Hiroshima was the a terrific nightmare and killed many people from the radiation of the atomic.

Blog Critique

I think that Nate did a good job at separating and going into depth on the topic of Immigration. The way he broke it up into Social, Political and economic. Immigration policies are still in effect and going through congress to this day. Even though it may not be the same problems as in the 1920's with too much immigrants coming into america. In the 1920's congress made the Immigration Act, which pushed the Immigrants away from America. What Obama is proposing to congress in his Immigration Reform bill, is to basically give the illegal immigrants a "second chance" at being an american. I am not going to go into detail about his plan, because that would be unnecessary. But if you knew what his plan was, in away Obama is doing the opposite of what congress did in the 1920's. He is accepting the immigrants, not pushing them away. Now society on the other hand, some of the people are still natavist and don't like immigrants. Like in 1920's with the KKK and the Fundamentalist.

Noah Did a fine job at analyzing the cultural problems involving Politics. He makes a good point in saying that the political movements of the 1920's controlled the cultural movements. I think to make this virtual essay a tad bit better he could of put a couple videos in it. I am a virtual learner so when i see things i can get a better picture of it. But it also gives the reader another perspective. In today, there are many things that protect the people from loosing all there money, like what happened on black Friday. Like the FDIC insurance, which pays the person up to a certain amount of money.

Indian Reservations with a Wisconsin twist!
During the late 1800's many people were moving west to the "new frontier". It was the american dream, to move west were there is opportunity Mostly because of the Homestead Act. Giving people 160 acres for $30. Now if I was someone back then I would say that is a bargain!
Since these pioneers were moving to the west there caused a lot of conflict. Now lets think, who always has conflict with the american's since the beginning of time? THE NATIVE AMERICANS! It beats me why the american's never got along with the Indians and why the Indians didn't like the american's. I mean if I put myself in the American shoes in the 1800's I could say that they attacked us first. But that was so long ago and too be honest the Indians are just trying to live their lives away from the Americans now.
It just keeps happening. From all these wars in the 1700's with Indians, to the trail of tears during Jackson's presidency. WHY CANT THEY JUST LEAVE THE INDIANS ALONE! GRRRRR!!!!!! The american people never really understood the Indian Society at all.
So the government decided to make the reservation system, which put boundaries on Indian territories. They gave a certain amount of land to the Indians too live on in peace. The government said they would leave them alone, so the Indian's agreed. But the compromise didn't last long. A lot of fighting between the army stationed in the west/ frontiersmen and the Indians. The battle of the little bighorn was one of the memorable battles. George Custer and his soldiers were killed. Over 250 soldiers were killed from "savages". The U.S. soldiers were going to get there revenge n many battles to come.
So on a side note: I can see why the american's didn't want to leave the Indians alone after this.... but it still is inexcusable to treat them any different then the rest of the american's.
Then once again the government struck against the Indians. The Dawes Severalty Act restricted the Indians territories even more. Well actually it broke up the territory given to them in the reservation system. The american's wanted to civilize the Indians. To be honest since I am a very liberal person I may think this way for a reason but... the Indians were always civilized it just wasn't the way the american people were civilized. So the Americans just assumed that they were "savages".

The Oneida tribe supplied corn for Washington's troops at Valley Forge!
Okay now to the facts that actually matter. :)
The Oneida people originally moved to Wisconsin because of the Indian removal act. There were many Oneida people living in upper Wisconsin area. The Dawes act made it much more difficult for the Indians to live in that region. In the act it gave each Indian individual 160 acres. Well it was a good idea because it gave the frontiers people what they wanted and the Indians what they wanted. But it didn't quiet work out that way for the Oneida people. There wasn't enough land for everyone to get that much of land.
So the Head of a household got 90 acres, Unmarried 21 and over got 45 acres, and other Indians got 20 acres. But this land wasn't in one spot. It was in several areas over the reservation land.
This act destroyed much of the Oneida's culture. Most of the people had to sell there land to pioneers and move to the city. For the Indians that stayed in the reservation land that was given to them, they made casinos or gambling places. It would keep the Indians up-float in the economy.
So now my mom and dad have a place to gamble when they go to Green Bay!
